The Wisconsin Land Information Association (WLIA) annual conference, Wisconsin’s largest GIS event, is happening just down the road this year at the Monona Terrace Convention Center on February 16 to 18. This is a perfect opportunity for UW folks to get off campus and interact with GIS professionals from all corners of the state and beyond.
The conference begins with a full day of workshops on the 16th, followed by a day and a half of plenary and breakout sessions on the 17th and 18th. Student registration is $25 for WLIA student members ($75 non-members), or free if you commit to six hours of service during the event.
Have a cool map you want to show off? The annual poster competition continues to be very popular, particularly among university students from around the state. The deadline to enter your map is Monday, February 14th.
The UW’s own (Senior Outreach Specialist at the State Cartographer’s Office, and incoming President of WLIA) is the conference Chair this year.
If you are planning to get a job in the geospatial industry, conference attendance is a great way to network with professionals working in the field. Most are more than willing to share their experiences with the next generation of GIS’ers, so don’t miss out on this opportunity!
